This party season’s top trends

With Christmas (and therefore the party season!) almost upon us, it’s definitely time to start thinking about your festive wardrobe. From sequinned cocktail dresses to silk ball gowns, here’s a round-up of this season’s festive fashions and must-have ladies dresses to help you get into the Christmas spirit.

Lace and Baroque

Delicate lace filled the catwalks this summer, and it seems this luxurious fabric is here to stay for winter, too! This season’s collections are brimming with chic and feminine lace dresses, perfect for ladylike eveningwear. Look out for elegant gothic baroque designs with intricate, swirling prints – these dresses are bang on trend.

Floral and maxi

Florals and maxis are now a wardrobe staple for both summer and winter. Although this summer’s florals came in sweet, candy-inspired pastel shades, winter strikes a different tone, with floral prints in rich berry and opulent purple tones. Look out for elegant maxi dresses in this season’s colours – with heavier fabrics and darker colours, the winter maxi is perfect for glam evening style.

Peplum dresses

The peplum made a serious fashion comeback in 2012 – adding a dash of 1940s/1950s sophistication to skirts, jackets and dresses all over the high street. This flared frill cleverly accentuates the hips and cinches the waist, for a chic silhouette. There are lots of different styles of peplum out there, however, so it’s worth finding the cut that suits your shape. As a quick guide: gathered is best for narrow waists, flared for pear shapes, asymmetric for curvy figures and pleated to hide tummies.

Animal print

Safari prints and animal motifs are another enduring favourite of the big fashion houses – and the high street – and this season’s party frocks are no exception. Maxi dresses and bodycons all feature statement leopard, giraffe and other animal prints; a great choice for women who aren’t afraid to make a bold fashion statement.

Vibrant colour

Bold pinks, reds and oranges can definitely help to overcome those winter wardrobe woes – so cast aside the well-worn blacks and greys, and go for vibrant colours. Not only are they flattering and eye-catching, but they’re also very much in at the moment, so try experimenting with hot pink dresses and scarlet red lipsticks.
